Just A Breather

EVER notice that when one writes a blog post for the first time, he or she writes about how it's his or her first blog post ever? Or that when friends who haven't seen nor talked to each other for a while ask each other how they're doing, they automatically bring up a) their job, b) their love lives (or lack of it), c) their health, or d) what their common friends are doing?

Recently, a friend and I were discussing this: why is it that when friends catch up, hardly anyone asks about how the other person has grown as an individual, what s/he has learned, or how they've really changed (or not) since they last talked? Is information like this difficult to prise out of one's thoughts, or have we just made a habit of considering such matters a bit uncomfortable to readily discuss?

Perhaps, just perhaps, if more people really exercised a little more interest in what their friends and families truly think, feel, or believe in enough to ask them about it, many of us would spend much less time tweeting, posting, and blogging about the minutiae of our lives.

I'm extremely exhausted tonight. I want to throw up.

And on an unrelated note, please watch Penn and Teller's Bullshit video series. It's hilarious and offers much to chew on, even though chewing on bullshit isn't exactly the most hilarious idea.
